Samsung’s Galaxy S4 might not have been a smash hit to the degree that many industry watchers were predicting, but it is still wildly popular. It’s also the fastest-selling Android smartphone of all time. Executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business Lee Young Hee confirmed last week that the phone’s successor, the Galaxy S5, will launch in either March or April of this year, and now a new report claims to narrow that timeframe down significantly.
According to Italian journalist Flavio Piccioni, Samsung’s next big global launch event is now scheduled to take place in mid-March. That event is expected to showcase Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy S5, of course. Piccioni said that the event will take place in London and he cites a single unnamed source he claims is reliable.
Earlier reports suggested that the Galaxy S5’s specs will include a new 64-bit eight-core Exynos processor or a quad-core Snapdragon processor depending on the device model, a 16-megapixel camera with new technology that improves low-light photo quality, 3GB of RAM, a 4,000 mAh battery and Android 4.4 KitKat. It may also feature a fingerprint scanner or an integrated eye scanner and a quad HD (2,560 x 1,440) display.
