With the Apple Watch launch slated to get rolling this Friday, it’s kind of funny to think that we’ll soon be living in a world where we have to boot up our watches. While Apple has slowly but surely released a few Apple Watch guided tour videos, we haven’t yet seen what it’s like to actually turn the device on for the first time.
Until now.

9to5Mac directs us to a recently uploaded YouTube video which demonstrates the Apple Watch boot up process.
It all begins, as one would expect, with an Apple logo on the screen as the boot up process gets underway. And then we wait… and wait… and wait a bit more. All in all, the entire time from off-mode to the watch face appearing takes about 71 seconds, perhaps not too surprising given that a) the Apple Watch is an incredibly advanced computer and b) this is the first iteration of the device. Recall that the first-generation iPhone, interestingly enough, also took approximately 70 seconds to boot up, a time Apple was thankfully able to shorten in successive releases.
Apple’s iPhone 6 models currently boot up in about 23 seconds, clearly leaving the Apple Watch in the dust. But again, if history is any indication, we can expect the boot up time on the Apple Watch to improve dramatically in the years ahead.
For good measure, below is a video of an iPhone 6 booting up.
