The new Apple TV won’t be available for purchase until late October, but YouTuber Andru Edwards somehow managed to get his hands on one and subsequently uploaded the first video unboxing of Apple’s new set-top box.
The understated packaging is what you’d expect from an Apple product, and the device comes with an expectedly sparse number of items: a power cord, the new Siri touch-enabled remote, and a lightning cable for charging the remote.
On the back of the Apple TV, there are just a few ports: a power connector, an HDMI 1.4 port, and an Ethernet port. Interestingly enough, the new Apple TV lacks gigabit Ethernet (it’s 10/100Mbps) but features support for 802.11ac WiFi, which is to say the device’s WiFi is faster than its Ethernet.
Edwards also adds that the Apple TV‘s new Siri-enabled remote, while perhaps looking cheap and made out of plastic during Apple’s demo this past Wednesday, is actually made out of metal.
When the fourth-gen Apple TV finally goes on sale in about 4-5 weeks, a 32GB model will be available for $149 and a 64GB model available for $199. Despite the respectable storage options, Apple, at least for now, is restricting developers to apps that weigh-in at under 200MB.
