After months of waiting, Apple device owners with compatible iPhone, iPad and iPod touch models will finally get access to iOS 7 on September 18th, Apple announced on Tuesday. Apple says that iOS 7 will be available for devices made in the past three years, so it sounds as though you’ll need an iPhone 4 or higher to take advantage of it.
The new mobile operating system is Apple’s biggest overhaul of iOS and is most notable for a flatter, cleaner look favored by design guru Jony Ive. In addition to aesthetic changes, iOS 7 also adds an updated Notification Center that can be accessed through the lock screen; a new motion-sensitive UI that shifts depending on how the phone is tilted and makes it seem as though the user is looking at a 3D display; a Control Center that can be accessed from anywhere on the device simply by swiping up from the bottom; added search capabilities for Siri that can help you search through Wikipedia, Twitter and other popular references and social media platforms; and enhanced APIs that open up new background functions to all apps.
