One of the most important features of iOS 8 is app extensions, a new Apple software trick that will let apps talk to each other, thus enabling new app features and user experiences. One app that will be significantly improved thanks to this particular iOS 8 feature is popular password manager 1Password, which will be even easier to use after the update to Apple’s latest operating systems. Users who have not already purchased it, should hurry and get the app right away, as it’s available as a free download from the App Store.

FROM EARLIER: This is one iOS 8 feature you’ll absolutely love

Initially, it wasn’t clear why the price went down all of a sudden from $10 to $0, as Agile Bits said on Twitter in a now-deleted tweet that it didn’t make the app free ahead of iOS 8’s arrival, apparently blaming it on an Apple mistake. Apple might have released an updated version of 1Password a bit earlier than expected, and the updated app might indeed be available free of charge was one speculation offered by Business Insider.

Some users have also noticed an in-app purchase warning in iTunes, suggesting that Agile Bits might be interested in selling the Touch ID fingerprint one-tap login feature in such a manner, making 1Password free of charge in the process.

Meanwhile, the company’s website still says that only one purchase is necessary. “1Password is a universal app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Purchase once and use across all your iOS 7 devices—no subscription or other fees required,” Agile Bits writes, implying there are no in-app purchases available for the app.

Since the first reports revealing 1Password for iOS might be free, Agile Bits confirmed that starting with 1Password 5, the app will be available as a free download for all iPhone and iPad users, with a one-time in-app purchase unlocking pro features. The company also confirmed that 1Password 5 for iOS will come with App Extensions support for Safari and third-party apps, Touch ID and Wi-Fi Sync with attachments.

Existing 1Password for iOS users will also get the update to 1Password 5 free of charge.

1Password still available as a free download from the App Store, and you can grab it immediately by following the source link.

UPDATE: Post updated to reflect Agile Bits’ confirmation that starting with 1Password 5 for iOS, the app will be available as a free download to all iOS device users.
