Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, the most hotly anticipated mobile game of the season is finally here — Super Mario Run has been released for the iPhone and iPad. That’s right, Nintendo’s beloved Mario character has officially made his iOS debut. People have been clamoring for a Mario game on the iPhone pretty much since the iPhone was first released, and now they’re dreams have finally come true… to an extent. Super Mario Run isn’t a true Mario game where the player controls Mario’s every move. Instead, it’s a runner, which means Mario automatically runs across the screen on his own and the player has to tap the screen to make him jump.
It doesn’t sound terribly exciting, but Nintendo actually did a great job with Super Mario Run (check out our Super Mario Run review for more). The game is so much fun, in fact, that it’s going to be responsible for killing iPhone batteries across the world over the next few weeks. If you’re already a Super Mario Run addict and you’re worried about your iPhone making it through the day, don’t worry because we’ll tell you how to save as much battery life as possible while playing Nintendo’s new game.
First things first: if you really want to ensure that your battery won’t die from endless hours of playing Super Mario Run, definitely carry a portable battery pack with you so you can charge up your iPhone at any time. Once you have your portable power source at the ready, we’ll tell you how to make your iPhone battery last as long as possible in between charges.
First, adjust some settings on your phone:
- In the Settings app, go to Battery and enable Low Power Mode — this will cut down on background activity and stop other apps from draining your battery
- Then swipe up on any screen to open the Control Center and make your display brightness as dim as you can tolerate
Now it’s time to adjust settings in Super Mario Run:
- Open Super Mario Run and tap anywhere on the screen to begin
- Tap the Menu icon in the bottom-left corner, then Settings
- Tap Options
- Next to Rendering Setting, tap the High button so that is says Low
- Next to Graphics Setting, tap the High button so that is says Low
That’s it. You’re now ready to play Super Mario Run and conserve as much battery as possible in the process.
