We are still nearly two months out from the debut of Deadpool & Wolverine, but director Shawn Levy might already be making plans for his next big Marvel movie. According to Deadline, Levy is Marvel’s top choice to direct Avengers 5 (whatever it’s called).

The site claims that Levy has already seen the latest Avengers script from screenwriter Michael Waldron (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness). Jeff Loveness (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania) was initially set to write the script for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, but last year, Marvel reportedly parted ways with the screenwriter.

Whether or not Shawn Levy actually wants the job remains to be seen. As Deadline notes, Levy is set to be heavily involved in the fifth and final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things, on which he is expected to be a director as well as an executive producer.

The report also says that Marvel has been hard at work behind the scenes to ensure production can begin in 2025, even without a director or the completed script. Sources claim that more than 60 MCU actors could reprise their roles in Avengers 5, including Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hiddleston, Simu Liu, and Karen Gillan.

What the report can’t reveal is how Marvel plans to handle the firing of Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conquerer. We still don’t know if Kang will be recast, if Marvel will introduce a new villain, or if multiple villains will face off with the Avengers in the next movie.

While Marvel waits for Levy to make a decision, the studio is reportedly continuing to meet with other directors who might want to helm the next big team-up movie.
