Despite the fact that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad combined to gross over $1.5 billion at the box office, it’s hard to consider them a success. Both movies were hyped beyond belief, but the critical reaction was incredibly harsh, with neither movie managing to top 30% on Rotten Tomatoes.

That’s not to say that the DC Extended Universe has no redeeming qualities. In fact, Ben Affleck’s Batman was praised in nearly every review I read, which is why everyone is so anxious to learn more about his solo Batman movie.

There’s not a whole lot of news to report regarding Affleck’s Batman movie, but with the actor currently on a press tour for The Accountant, questions about the project have inevitably been coming up. Thankfully, Affleck has been willing to share a few morsels to tide fans over while they wait for the movie.

Speaking with the Associated Press, Affleck confirmed that his solo movie will be called The Batman (providing he doesn’t change it before it releases):

In another interview, Collider’s Steve Weintraub asked Affleck why Deathstroke was the right villain for this movie. Here’s what he had to say:

“He’s a great villain because—I just had an instinctive feeling that he would match up with him well. You know, I’m a big admirer of that character as well, especially in the New 52 the way that they did Deathstroke, and I thought that it could work.”

Like I said, it’s not much, but it’s food for thought while we wait. Ben Affleck’s The Batman doesn’t have a release date yet, but 2018 seems likely.
