In a few weeks, Disney’s first Star Wars spin off will hit theaters, one year after Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The movie will not start a different Rogue saga, so don’t expect any sequels. Then again, you were not expecting any, were you?

Rogue One tells the story of how the plans for the Death Star were stolen. The action takes place between Episodes III and IV, and we already know it has a happy end. In Episode IV, the original episode that started this entire thing, Luke Skywalker blasts the first Death Star into oblivion. That’s possible because a team of rebels — Rogue One — stole the plans for the dangerous battle station.

So, no matter what happens to the characters in the movie, and no matter how hard it’s going to be to steal the information from Darth Vader and Co., one thing is clear: the Rogue One crew will complete the mission.

Sure, Disney could drag on the movie, and turn it into a two-part or three-part thing. But it would not be cool at all.

Thankfully, LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy told Empire Magazine (via Slash Film) that they will not be making a Rogue Two.Visual effects artist John Knoll also said that Rogue One was always supposed to be a self-contained movie, Variety reports.

Director Gareth Edwards said that if there were to be a second episode for Rogue One, it’d be “directed by George Lucas,” suggesting that that sequel is Star Wars: Episode IV.

From a different point of view, Rogue One will be followed by other Star Wars stories that won’t be included in the sagas. The standalone Han Solo movie is scheduled for a 2018 launch — and that’s one story I wouldn’t mind to see over two or three parts.

Rogue One opens on December 16th, and tickets are already available online.
