With the Pokemon Go Halloween event in full swing, you’ve probably spent the past couple of days catching as many Gengars, Meowths and Marowaks as you could find. By and large, fans of the game are loving this holiday event, but now that the weekend has arrived, you might be wondering how you can make the most of your time catching Pokemon, hatching eggs and walking Buddies during the event.
Maybe an in-depth strategy guide would help.
Earlier this week, the Pokemon Go GamePress site shared a strategy guide that should help trainers optimize their time in the game throughout the event.
First of all, from October 26th through November 1st, any Buddy Pokemon you select will earn candy four times as fast. You could just pick your favorite and level it up, but there are certain Buddies that are more worthwhile than others. For example, Lapras and Snorlax are especially hard to find, so there aren’t many ways to get their candy. If you want to make your low-level Snorlax competitive, you should spend this weekend walking around with him as your Buddy.
Other solid choices include the three starters (Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle), Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Clefairy and even Magikarp if you still need a Gyarados.
If you’ve caught enough “spooky” Pokemon and would rather use the rest of the event to capture Pokemon and receive double the candy, you should focus on rare creatures like Dratini, Exeggcute, Jigglypuff and Growlithe. Their evolved forms are some of the strongest Pokemon in the game at the moment.
This is also the perfect opportunity to get a few Gold Medals, which now grant permanent catch bonuses. The “spooky” Pokemon that are spawning everywhere fall under the Ghost, Psychic, Ground, Flying, Poison and Normal types, and if you catch 200 of any type, you’ll get the Gold Medal for that type.
Finally, this is the perfect opportunity to unlock the Pikachu Buddy easter egg where he rides on your shoulder. Collecting 10 candies with Pikachu will only require you to walk 2.5km as opposed to the standard 10km.
Remember, the Halloween event ends on November 1st.
