While previous iPhone models, going all the way back to the iPhone 5, only came with 1GB of RAM, teardowns of the iPhone 6s have confirmed that Apple’s next-gen smartphone does in fact come with a generous 2GB of memory. For many users, this under-the-hood improvement has been a long time coming, particularly since Apple is notoriously stingy when it comes to RAM.

With double the RAM, iPhone 6s users can expect a more stable user experience along with snappier performance across a number of apps, most notably Safari. In the iDownloadblog video below, we can see first-hand how mobile Safari benefits from the added boost in memory. With 2GB of RAM to play with, Safari can now keep more tabs open without necessitating a refresh of a website upon every visit. For users who have a habit of keeping multiple tabs open simultaneously, this will undoubtedly help make browsing a more enjoyable experience.

All the same, it’s worth pointing out that Apple’s iPhone 6s isn’t exactly leading the smartphone industry with its 2GB of RAM. After all, recall that the Samsung Galaxy S6 sports 3GB of RAM. In fact, even the Galaxy S4, released all the way back in 2013, came with 2GB of RAM. Still, it’s nice for Apple to finally step up to the plate and deliver more RAM, even if it took them a while to do so. And who knows, perhaps next year Apple will finally say goodbye to its 16GB entry-level model.
