BlackBerry PlayBook sales miss targets by over 90% at major retailer, ‘much higher’ return rate than XOOM

Exclusive

According to a trusted source from a major big box retailer, sales of RIM’s BlackBerry PlayBook have fallen far short of expectations. In addition, we’re told that the PlayBook is being returned at a higher pace than the Motorola XOOM. According to our source, PlayBook sales at this particular retailer missed internal sales targets by more than 90%. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the PlayBook is “being returned at a much higher rate than the XOOM,” which has a very high return rate itself at 7% according to our source. RIM launched its PlayBook tablet on April 19th and sales have been fairly impressive so far according to some analysts. Our source is singing a different tune, however, so let’s hope other major retailers are having better luck with the PlayBook. We’re rooting for RIM, but maybe amateur hour isn’t over yet?

UPDATE: RIM supplied BGR with an official statement in response to this post.

BGR. That source must be another bias Apple user. The biggest box retailer that matter, Best Buy already reported that sales exceeded expectations. Who actually goes anywhere else for electronic gadgets.  Also when you consider that Best Buy is the only big box retailer that ran television and online ads it will explain why sales at other retailers are low.  Lets get some hard facts BGR..

The XOOM’s browser is a joke as far as I’m concerned and what’s with this “trusted source garbage” I mean we all like hearing about new devices and apps from “trusted sources” but when it comes to sales just give us the official numbers, this blog is looking more and more “pro android / iOS”

Clearly BGR has Apples cock so far up its ass because they always seem to slam any other device but Apples. I love how they post crap like this but the Apple related negative stories never seem to get posted.

This kind of bogus journalism is for mindless jerks who can’t really write anything based on actual facts.

Consider at least one legimate newspaper’s policies for the use of anonymous sources…

…”When an unnamed source must be used, the story should explain why his or her identity is being withheld, and enough information should be given about the source to establish his or her authority to speak on the subject…..”

Imagine that….. a publisher who practices reporting that involves honest standards.  Clearly not a factor here at BGR.

Exactly.  Apple fan-atics dissing Rim, the only thing new is pretending to be a reliable source. And before you can whisper ‘conspiracy theory’ read the Google-Facebook debacle.  Corporate espionage is alive and well.

     So..I have a few questions..
.Why are they unnamed?Whose decision was it to keep them anonymous…theirs or yours? If yours…why? If theirs, what are they afraid of?Did they offer any actual hard proof of these claims? (Actual sales records, for example)?Did anyone in your organization bother to investigate their claims, or did you simply believe them? Are there any other sources that would refute their claims?Do you even know the answer to that question?Did anyone bother to find out?Since RIM has stated that they are unaware of the problem, do you intend to see who is telling the truth?Do you even care?

Name the analyst.  Name the retailer.  This is gossip, not reporting.  Another RIM bashing – like they need it.  Why not break from tradition and surprise us?

We have a Playbook and for the most part love it.  My wife would kill me if I returned it but then why would I?  Runs flash and we read ebooks on it etc.  Actually we are going to get another one we love it so much and it’s user friendly as well.

The writing is on the wall… RIM and Blackberry are going the way of the BetaMax and Intellivision.
