If you live in the United States and you make use of a VPN service, the odds are fairly good that you’re using it because you want to and not because you need to. We’re not suggesting that VPN services are unnecessary or a luxury of some sort — quite the contrary, in fact. VPN services are hugely important tools that can keep you safe from malicious hackers and hide your browsing from advertisers.

But in some parts of the world, VPNs serve a much more crucial role: They give people access to services and information that would otherwise be censored.

Software solutions provider KeepSolid on Tuesday announced a brand new version of its unlimited VPN app for the iPhone. Appropriately named VPN Unlimited, the app offers unlimited VPN service to iOS device users around the world. Additional versions of VPN Unlimited are available for Android, Windows, Mac and other platforms.

VPN services have been popping up more frequently lately as web security becomes an increasingly popular category. Our favorite has historically been BetterNet, which is available for desktop browsers like Chrome in addition to mobile devices, because it offers unlimited VPN service that is completely free, forever. But KeepSolid’s newly updated app adds a unique twist to the VPN proposition.

In addition to providing users around the world with a means of keeping their browsing safe and anonymous, VPN Unlimited was also designed specifically to bypass censorship in regions such as United Arab Emirates, China and Saudi Arabia, where internet services are restricted and citizens are barred from accessing certain sites and services. The app makes it easy for users in those regions to get past those restrictions and experience the internet as it should be.

“Not only your connection will be protected, your geographic location and IP will be hidden too,” KeepSolid said in a press release. “This will let you surf the web without any restrictions or limits. Whether inside your country, or on a business trip, or on vacation, you will have access to your favorite web resources even in the regions with strict internet censorship.”

VPN Unlimited for the iPhone is free to download and free to use for 10 days. After that, subscriptions are available as in-app purchases with prices starting at $1.99 for a week of access, $4.99 per month and $24.99 per year.
