After hosting its latest Made by Google event last October, Google has moved up the hardware showcase a few months in 2024. On Tuesday, Google announced that the next in-person Made by Google event will take place on August 13 at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET.
We don’t know much else about the event yet, but Google says that it will “showcase the best of Google AI, Android software and the Pixel portfolio of devices.”
Based on that description, we can safely assume that the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro will make their debuts at the event in August. Traditionally, Google waits until later in the fall to reveal the latest flagship phones, but perhaps the company decided that getting the jump on Apple’s iPhone 16 would be a good idea rather than trying to follow it.
We’ll also undoubtedly get an extensive look at Android 15, which is expected to launch around the time this event takes place. It is also notable that Google put AI first on the call sheet — with Apple planning to go all in on AI this generation as well, it’s more important than ever for Google to differentiate itself and stand out by beating the iPhone to the punch.
In the meantime, we’ll be curious to see if Google can keep a lid on the leaks prior to this event. For the past several years, virtually everything the company prepared for these events found its way online days, weeks, or even months beforehand. With less than two months to go until this showcase, the company might be able to keep a secret or two.
