Managing Facebook privacy settings is now easier than ever

Facebook Privacy Basics Tool

Facebook lets you customize plenty of privacy-related aspects of your Facebook experience, but not everything is crystal clear, and you might ignore some important settings while digging through the various menus at your disposal. Apparently, Facebook is also aware that managing privacy settings isn’t a comfortable experience for all users, so the company came up with a better way to do it.

Called Privacy Basics and available at this link, the new privacy settings site comes with a neat user interface that offers more explanations about how you can protect your privacy while using Facebook, and ways to change settings if you so desire.

The move is part of Facebook’s Data Privacy Day, held every year on January 28th. “We’re joining state attorneys general and other policymakers who are sharing their own privacy information on Facebook, along with organizations around the world like National Cyber Security Alliance, the Electronic Frontier Foundation and the Center for Democracy and Technology, who are working to raise awareness of how to take charge of your information online,” Facebook said.

Privacy Basics still gets you the same set of settings that are available in the traditional Facebook page. But the new page is “built using your feedback [and] everything is organized, so that information about protecting your privacy is easy to find.”

Facebook says it has 32 interactive guides in 44 languages to help you manage your privacy better than before. In addition to Privacy Basics, Facebook still promotes other security features, including Privacy Checkup and login approvals.

Whenever he's not writing about gadgets he miserably fails to stay away from them, although he desperately tries. But that's not necessarily a bad thing.
