How to block No Caller ID on an iPhone

Getting unwanted phone calls can be pretty frustrating. Even more so when it’s from someone with no caller ID. To combat this, we’ll show you how to block No Caller ID calls on your iPhone.

There are several ways to prevent unknown calls like these from being a nuisance to you. All of which will be made known to you in this extensive guide. Just keep scrolling!

Blocking No Caller ID on iPhone X, 11, 12, and 13

These latest versions of iPhones come with features that have proven quite helpful in curbing unwanted calls. With that said, there are three different ways to block No Caller ID calls on these versions of the iPhone.

Silence Unknown Callers

With the unique silence unknown callers feature created for iPhones on iOS 13 upwards, your calls from unknown callers will be directed straight to voicemail.

Although your iPhone won’t ring when you receive a call from an unknown caller, a record of the call will appear in the Recent section of your phonebook. You’ll also receive a notification of the message if they leave a voicemail.

To activate this feature:

  • Go to the Settings icon (a small, grey gear) on your iPhone, and tap on it.

  • Scroll down the menu and select Phone.

  • Then, switch it on by sliding the toggle to the right. When it turns green, you’ve successfully activated the feature.

True to its name, this feature will silence calls from unwanted callers.

Do not disturb

This is another way for you to block unwanted calls from unknown callers. Here’s what to do to set it up:

  • Select the Settings icon on your iPhone.

  • Scroll down the menu and tap Do Not Disturb.

Once this is done, you can close the menu and return to your home screen.

This process will allow calls from only the people you have saved in your contacts list to go through to you.

The downside is that it prevents calls from other numbers, and you could miss important calls from numbers other than the ones in your contacts list.

Create a new contact

Lastly, you can block unknown callers by creating a new contact and naming it Do Not Answer or No Caller ID.

Since iPhone cannot block hidden or private numbers because it doesn’t recognize them, you can create a contact that mimics this unknown number.

To do this:

  • Go to Contacts and tap the + icon to add a new contact.

  • Input No Caller ID in the box meant for the contact’s name.

  • Then, type in 000-000-0000 as the phone number of the new contact.

  • Now, scroll through the newly added contact’s profile and select Block this Caller.

Once this is done, your iPhone will be able to recognize hidden or private numbers as blocked numbers.

This will prevent your phone from ringing when you receive a call from an unknown number.

Blocking No Caller ID on iPhone 6, 7, and 8

Some of the features on the latest iPhone versions might not be available on the older versions. Fortunately, there are still alternative ways to block calls from unknown numbers.

  • Go to Contacts on your phone and tap the + icon to add a new contact.

Activate Do not disturb

  • Go to your phone’s Settings icon and tap on it.

  • Search for Do Not Disturb in the menu and slide the toggle next to it to the right to activate the feature. Once activated, the toggle will become green, and a moon icon will appear in your status bar.

  • Return to your home screen.

Remember that doing this will block unknown numbers and numbers that aren’t stored in your contact list.

Cell phone carriers

If you aren’t satisfied with any of the above-listed methods, you can block unknown numbers on your iPhone through your cell phone carrier.

Plans or filters to block unknown callers are provided by most of these service providers. Some of the most popular networks in the US offer: AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint.

You can sign up for Call Filter services if you use Verizon as your cell phone carrier, and it’s free to Verizon subscribers.

This service offers a filtering app called ScamShield, and it protects against robocalls, spam, and unwanted calls.

You can download the app for free from the App Store or go for the Scam Shield Premium, which offers more features and requires you to pay a monthly fee.

Sprint service also offers a plan that prevents you from receiving calls from unwanted numbers.

Call blocking apps

Several apps can help stop you from receiving calls from unwanted numbers, some of which are: Robo Shield and Truecaller.
