These are the 25 best passwords you can use… if you want to be hacked

Malicious hackers spend much of their time developing sophisticated attacks and complex new ways to steal people’s credit card numbers, bank account information and other private data. It’s getting more and more difficult to protect ourselves from these hacks, especially when just about anyone can go online and hire a hacker these days.

But for many people, all of the hard work these hackers put into ruining our lives is a waste of time, because they make things remarkably easy for hackers by using the worst passwords on the planet.

Each year, SplashData puts together a list of the 25 most commonly used passwords on the Internet. In this case, of course, “commonly used” is a very, very bad thing.

In 2013, “password” was finally replaced in the No. 1 position as “123456” became the worst password on the web. This year, those two passwords retained the Nos. 1 and 2 positions as the two most common passwords people used in 2014.

Interestingly, “12345” shot up 17 places to take the No. 3 spot, pushing “12345678” and “qwerty” down one spot each into Nos. 4 and 5, respectively.

There were also 10 brand new entries on the list in 2014, including “baseball,” “football,” “superman,” “batman” and “michael.”
