Renowned critic is stunned by Apple Music: ‘How could they get it so wrong?’

A lot of people are using Apple Music, but how many are staying around to pay for it now that the free trial period is over? One person who certainly won’t be shelling out cash for Apple Music is highly respected music industry analyst and critic Bob Lefsetz, who is simply stunned at how much he disliked using the service during the three-month trial period. In fact, the major question he has for Apple about his experience with Apple Music is, “How could they get it so wrong?:

First, he rips Apple for the early version of Apple Music that he says was basically a beta that was pushed out as a final product. Then he slams Apple Music for being a product without a purpose because Spotify already does what Apple Music does, only better.

“Spotify works better for me. If Apple Music improves…how am I gonna know?” he asks. “First impressions count. How are you gonna get all those people back to Apple Music? The ones who signed off today, and the ones who’ll sign off in a month when they’re surprised by the bill?”

He says the only way Apple Music can lure him back is to offer some sort of freemium tier like the one that Spotify has. However, he can’t see the rightsholders agreeing to that, which means his time giving Apple Music a shot is at an end.

But even though he’s not using Apple Music anymore, he’s not done ranting about it.

“Apple Music does the one key thing lousily… And that’s play music,” he fumes. “All the curation, all the b.s… Just let me play my tunes. And give me comprehensible playlists. Even better, give me a comprehensible interface… I’ve abandoned Apple Music. And I’m not the only one.”
