So far we’ve heard a lot about Apple Pay support at major retailers, but what about the small businesses in your neighborhood? CNN reports that help for them is on the way because Square founder Jack Dorsey says that the company is working on adding support for Apple Pay to its popular payments system.

For those of you who don’t know, Square is used by small merchants across the country to process credit card payments on iPhones and iPads. It’s particularly useful for people who are always on the move, such as artists who are presenting their work at galleries or farmers who sell their produce at farmers’ markets, but it’s also used by plenty of mom-and-pop shops as well.

Adding Apple Pay support would let iPhone owners use Apple Pay at a lot more small businesses, which can only help the platform spread faster.

In his interview with CNN, Dorsey also disputed the notion that Square and Apple Pay are competitors and explained that the two platforms perform to distinct services.

“We’re not building a credit card,” he said. “We’re not building a payment device. We’re building a [cash] register, and this register accepts all these forms of payments.”
