Anyone who has been waiting for a new Droid smartphone likely doesn’t have much longer to wait. Verizon has sent out invitations for a press conference on July 23rd, when it promises to “unveil the next generation of one of our most popular family of devices,” which is a pretty clear reference to Motorola’s Droid line of smartphones. We already know from earlier leaks that Motorola is planning to launch three new Droid devices this summer that will reportedly be called the Droid Ultra, the Droid Maxx and the Droid Mini. The new Droids are just a sideshow for Motorola, however, as the company is saving the announcement of its new Moto X flagship device for later this summer.
