You might think of iPhone owners as an insular crowd, constantly upgrading from one device to the next, year after year, but Tim Cook says that’s not the case. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Cook said that fewer than 15% of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus sales came from customers upgrading from another iPhone.

Instead, a majority of them switched from Android.

DON’T MISS: iPhone 6 and 6 Plus stole more users from Android than any other iPhone

Cook alluded to this on Tuesday during an earnings conference call, but wasn’t ready to discuss the exact percentages at the time.

“We certainly believe there are legs to it,” said Cook in regards to the enormous surge in iPhone sales over the past few months.

And he’s not the only one who thinks so. Cowen and Co. analyst Timothy Acuri said that the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus might have a “longer tail than prior product cycles” because of their ability to steal customers from the competition. iOS might never be the most used mobile operating system in the world, but Apple isn’t going down without a fight.

Although Apple recently joined a very exclusive club, having sold 1 billion iOS devices since 2007, some analysts suspect that this seemingly unstoppable growth will begin to slow in 2016. This is a concern nearly every year, but Apple continues to beat expectations without breaking a sweat.
