Sony (ADR) is reportedly planning a thinner and more powerful successor to its Tablet S, according to leaked images obtained by German news site Mobiflip. The Japanese electronics giant will brand the device with the “Xperia” name that has previously been reserved for Sony’s smartphones. The Xperia Tablet will be equipped with a quad-core Tegra 3 processor, 3G connectivity and 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. The slate will feature a 6,000 mAh battery that will supply roughly 10 hours of Wi-Fi browsing, and run Android 4.0 “or later.” The images also reveal that Sony is planning to introduce a new keyboard cover that resembles Microsoft’s (MSFT) Surface tablet cover. The “suggested retail price” of the cover is $99.99, while the tablet itself will start at $449.99. It is speculated that Sony may unveil the Xperia Tablet at next month’s IFA trade show in Berlin on August 31st. An image of the keyboard cover accessory follows after the break.
