Following in the footsteps on HBO Now, Showtime will give everyone the chance to subscribe to the premium network without having to deal with an overpriced cable TV package. HBO Now has already been a massive success, but even if Showtime can’t pull in the same numbers, the mere fact that the industry is is thinking beyond cable is a good sign for consumers everywhere.
The app was originally expected to launch at the end of the week, but with Showtime original series Masters of Sex and Ray Donovan set to kick off new seasons on Sunday, it makes sense that the company would give new users time to get acquainted with the app.
Within the Showtime app, you’ll be able to watch any shows or movies on demand at any time. You can also tune in to the live West Coast and East Coast feeds in order to follow along live.
At the rate these services are coming out, it’s hard to imagine that the industry as a whole will be able to avoid the growing demand for on-demand streaming for much longer. By the end of the decade, there’s no telling how many services we’ll be able to pick and choose from to suit our personal viewing habits.
