Apple is planning to launch a new “iPad mini” in the third quarter this year, according to a purported leaked document allegedly composed by Samsung Securities analyst JungHoon Chang. The document was obtained from an unnamed source and published on Saturday by OLED-Display.net on Saturday, but it is unclear if Chang possesses inside information relating to the iPad mini or if he is simply restating rumors that have been swirling for nearly a year. “Following the success of its iPad 1 and iPad 2, which have which have together achieved sales of 55m units, Apple plans in 1Q12 to launch the iPad 3 and in 3Q12 a new 7-inch product temporarily referred to as the iPad mini,” Chang wrote in the document. The analyst also notes that Apple may be in discussions with Samsung Electronics regarding the implementation of flexible AMOLED displays in future iPads and iPhones.
