There are plenty of great features Android users enjoy that iPhone owners simply don’t have access to (and plenty of awesome Android apps that do amazing things the iPhone can’t). For iOS device users who don’t mind jailbreaking their handsets, however, the gap in functionality is significantly less wide. Now, thanks to one iOS developer, Apple device owners have access to yet another nifty Android feature that had previously eluded them.
As noted by 9to5Mac, a newly released jailbreak tweak called “OkSiri” allows iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users to launch Siri from any screen without even touching their devices.
Just as owners of the Moto X and some other Android phones can launch Google Now simply by speaking the phrase “OK Google,” OkSiri lets iOS device users speak a phrase to launch Siri.
The app’s launch phrase is “OK Siri” by default, but users can train it to recognize a different phrase just as Android users can with Google Now.
OkSiri isn’t perfect and there are a few bugs to work out, as 9to5Mac noted, but it’s a free download from Cydia.
Here’s a quick video of OkSiri in action:
