Lyft this week announced a new strategic partnership with Verizon that it hopes will give it some added firepower in its ongoing battle against Uber for ridesharing supremacy.
Under the newly formed partnership, Lyft’s mobile app will come pre-installed on select Android smartphones on Verizon. This type of strategy is of course nothing new as carriers have, for years now, gladly littered cellphone homescreens with apps from anyone willing to pay for that level of placement.

But what makes the Lyft/Verizon deal interesting, if not unique, is that Lyft drivers who happen to be Verizon subscribers will be able to enjoy a 15% discount on their monthly smartphone plan, no matter if it’s an individual or family plan. Additionally, Lyft drivers will be eligible for discounts on various accessories.
In a blog post announcing the recently inked deal, Lyft said that its deal with Verizon may only be the first of many.
“Stay tuned, because today is just the beginning,” Lyft said. “We will continue to work closely with Verizon on initiatives that benefit Lyft’s drivers and passengers in the weeks and months to come.”
