The next chapter in the ongoing James Bond saga is easily one of the mostly hotly anticipated movies of 2015. Dubbed Spectre, the film stars Christoph Waltz, Ralph Fiennes, Monica Bellucci and Lea Seydoux alongside Bond himself, Daniel Craig. We have seen a number of compelling arguments suggesting that Craig ranks among the best Bonds in 007 history, but new rumors suggest his role as the iconic British agent may soon be coming to an end.

2012 Bond film Skyfall was the most action-packed Bond film yet, and it was also the highest-grossing Bond movie by a huge margin. Despite the continued success of Daniel Craig’s 007, however, new rumors suggest that the search for the next star of the Bond series is already heating up.

As reported by BGR sister site Variety, industry rumors point to former Homeland star Damian Lewis as a frontrunner to star in future Bond movies. The chatter has caused UK odds maker William Hill to drop the odds Lewis will star as the next Bond from 25/1 down to 3/1.

Other actors that rank among the narrowest bets to play the next Bond include Tom Hardy (4/1), Henry Cavill (5/1), Michael Fassbender (7/1) and Orlando Bloom (12/1). Also of note, the odds that Spectre will be the last 007 movie to star Craig as James Bond currently sit at 10/1.

William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams is unaware of the origin of the rumors.

“This is an unprecedented gamble, as for no apparent reason we have seen bets of up to £200 ($312) on Damian Lewis being named as the next Bond. This could well be significant and might herald the end of Daniel Craig as the world’s most famous spy,” Adams told Variety.

Spectre is set to be released on October 23rd in the U.K and November 6th in the U.S. and elsewhere, and the movie’s first full-length trailer can be seen below.
