Count wireless charging among a handful of smartphone features that are absolutely terrific but not quite popular enough to truly impact user experiences as much as they should. There is no question that simply placing your handset down on a charging surface is more convenient than plugging in a cable or shimmying your phone into a dock. Not enough phones support wireless charging out of the box, however, and users still need to buy multiple charging pads for different locations and also carry a charging pad for use on the go.
Someday, wireless charging stations will be everywhere we go and the technology will indeed vastly improve the smartphone user experience. Until then, it’s a nice convenience when it’s supported. Spence’s guide includes just a few simple steps and best of all, it involves no permanent modifications so you can add wireless charging support to your iPhone and remove it at will. The trick involves the addition of just two simple components to your iPhone. One is a “Qi Wireless Charging Card” that can be purchased on eBay for about $10, and the second is a “Qi compatible wireless charging pad,” which is even cheaper on eBay. The former plugs into your iPhone’s Lightning port and sticks to the back of your iPhone, and the latter is a small pad you’ll place your iPhone on to charge it wirelessly.
