A report last week revealed iPhone 6 battery details, suggesting that Apple’s 2014 iPhone models may offer similar or even better battery performance as last year’s iPhones, as they will have slightly bigger batteries. The 4.7-inch iPhone 6 was expected to have a battery capacity of 1,800 mAh to 1,900 mAh, while the phablet version of the handset was said to have a 2,500 mAh battery. Now, French publication Nowhereelse has obtained an image of the purported 4.7-inch iPhone 6’s battery, which may confirm that the battery has a capacity in line with previous reports.
FROM EARLIER: Ultra-thin iPhone 6 design posing technical difficulties to component makers
The image shows a battery assembled in China by Huizhou Desay Battery, which has 1,810 mAh capacity. What’s interesting about the battery maker is that Desay was mentioned in a recent report as one of Apple’s iPhone 6 battery suppliers that’s able to meet the company’s size requirements for this component.
This could be particularly good news in light of the fact that improved battery life, not screen size, is users’ most most sought-after feature in the iPhone 6, according to a recent survey.
The iPhone 6 models to be launched this year are expected to be just 7mm thin, with Apple said to have placed orders to battery suppliers for 2mm-thick batteries, which are one-third thinner than the batteries found in the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c.
A different report on Wednesday said that Apple suppliers encountered challenges mass-producing slimmed-down components for the iPhone 6, including batteries, which could affect their gross margins.
Previously leaked images showed a batch of purported iPhone 6 batteries, although their capacities were not revealed in those leaks. This appears to be the first purported iPhone 6 picture that actually lists the capacity of the battery, an important hardware detail, especially considering this year’s model will have significantly bigger displays.
Nowhereelse has only obtained an image showing the side of the rumored iPhone 6 battery, so it’s thin profile can’t be seen – that picture follows below.
