Apple surprised iPad fans last year by releasing a new iPad mini model that was barely an upgrade from the iPad mini 2. The iPad Air 2 received a major overhaul and became even thinner than ever, while the iPad mini 3 got a new paint job and a fingerprint sensor… and that’s literally it. That might change this year, and purported 3D CAD images of the iPad mini 4 seem to indicate the tablet will be as thin as the iPad Air 2.

Published on Twitter by @OnLeaks, the schematics indicate the Apple’s next-gen tablet will be 6.13mm thick, similar to the iPad Air 2.
Earlier this year, reliable apple insider Ming-Chi Kuo said in a note to investors that the iPad mini 4 will be a smaller version of the iPad Air 2, suggesting the device will receive other hardware upgrades in addition to the iPad Air 2 design.
According to a Friday report from BuzzFeed, Apple will unveil the next-gen iPhone 6s on September 9th during a special media event during which it’ll also announce various other products including new iPad models.
