New leak offers our best look yet at the next-gen iPad Air

iPad Air 2 Leaked Pictures

We’ve had more than our fill of iPhone 6 mockups, which is why we’re happy to see that mockups for the next-generation iPad Air have started popping up on the Internet as well. Japanese website ASCII Plus has posted several high-quality pictures of a next-gen iPad Air dummy that show us some of the subtle design changes that Apple is planning to make with its next tablet.

The least surprising design change is that Apple is making the next iPad Air even thinner than the original, which measured in at only 7.5 millimeters thin. And as you can see in the picture below, Apple has also apparently decided to make the volume buttons recessed while the original iPad Air’s volume buttons protruded from the device’s frame.

And of course, the mockup shows us that the next iPad Air will also feature the Touch ID fingerprint sensor that will give you a way to authorize mobile payments just by getting your fingerprint scanned.

Other than this, though, we’re not seeing too many major design changes to differentiate the next-gen iPad Air from the original model. This isn’t at all surprising, since earlier leaks have claimed that the new tablet will have the same display size as the original iPad Air with the exact same resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels, or 264 pixels per inch. However, the device will also reportedly be upgraded to include Apple’s next-generation A8 processor and will also feature an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera that will be an upgrade from the first iPad Air’s 5-megapixel camera.
