Apple’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are positively gorgeous smartphones. They feature sleek designs and big, bright, beautiful displays. The new iPhone models for 2014 are also disasters waiting to happen, thanks to their slippery aluminum housings that have a tendency to slide out of users’ hands at the worst possible times.

We have attempted to help iPhone owners by recommending some fantastic iPhone cases that will protect the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in style, but some people just don’t want to listen. If you’re one of those people and you’ve recently broken your screen by dropping your phone, you might be able to save a bunch of time and money by fixing it yourself in just five minutes.

Smartphone repair shops have popped up all over the country over the past few years. In fact, it’s impossible to walk 50 feet in a U.S. mall without passing at least one stand that sells smartphone cases and repairs broken iPhones.

For people who want to fix their phones as quickly as possible, these establishments provide a quick and easy option. If you want to save some money, however, you can buy a few inexpensive tools and do the job yourself.

Smartphone component seller Etrade Supply has a step-by-step guide that includes all the tools you’ll need to disassemble your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus and replace your cracked screen. Of course, you’ll void your warranty, but it still might not be a bad idea if you’re handy and you can source an inexpensive replacement display.

Of note, Apple will replace a cracked iPhone 6 screen for $109 or an iPhone 6 Plus screen for $129, though it will take a bit of time to get the job done. If you have AppleCare+, the job will cost just $79.
