Google has quietly added a couple of new cards to its Google Now arsenal, with Reddit users having already spotted a special police activity card as well as a card that provides solar eclipse information.

FROM EARLIER: Here are the best times to watch tomorrow’s partial solar eclipse

The police activity card will inform users about any criminal activity taking place around them by integrating alerts from Nixle, a service that offers notification services for local police departments and other agencies.

While criminal activity is not necessarily something you’d want to keep track of, it’s still an interesting new addition to Google’s smart virtual assistant and it could end up keeping you out of harm’s way.

Beyond that, the solar eclipse information Google Now can now offer may be even more interesting, especially for fans looking for specific eclipse info.

In addition to pointing out that an eclipse is imminent, the new Google Now card will also offer users useful information on how and whereto best enjoy it. As seen in the example above, the card includes links to pages that explain how to make a pinhole projector, how to photograph the eclipse, but also eye safety information.

Depending on your location, you may already receive police activity reports and solar eclipse information on your mobile device.
