Google’s most popular device is now available in more markets

Google Chromecast Launch in Canada, Europe

Google on Tuesday confirmed that the Chromecast will be available in other international markets, many more than initially believed. The device will be on sale in an additional 11 countries including Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the U.K. – recent reports only mentioned France, Germany and U.K. availability for the dongle.

The Chromecast will be available to interested buyers from local Google Play stores but also other electronics retailers including Amazon, Currys PC World, Elkjøp, FNAC, Saturn, Media Markt and many others. Just like in the U.S., the Chromecast will be equally affordable in those markets retailing for €35 in Europe for example.

Google has also said that several cast-ready apps will be available to Chromecast buyers in their home countries, mentioning the BBC iPlayer app for the U.K., France TV Pluzz, SFR TV and Canalplay for France, and Watchever and Maxdome for Germany. Additional cast-ready applications will be available soon, as “more than 3,000 developers worldwide have signed up to bring their apps and websites to Chromecast.” A list of Chromecast apps is available at

The dongle has been highlighted in Google’s most recent earnings as one of the company’s best-selling devices, with Sundar Pichai later revealing that Google has sold millions of Chromecasts so far.
