After the disappointment that was Assassin’s Creed 3, many gamers were beginning to see the fault lines in the long-running franchise. The story had become almost impenetrably convoluted and the mission structure started feeling stale, but against all odds Ubisoft pulled a complete reversal with Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, which quickly became one of the most well-received entries in the history of the series. There has not been any major news concerning the follow-up to the latest, swashbuckling Assassin’s Creed, but Ubisoft finally hinted at an upcoming announcement in its earnings call on Monday.
According to NowGamer, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said in a conference call that five major titles will be coming in the next year, including Just Dance, The Crew and Watch Dogs. Of the two unannounced titles, there is very little doubt that one will be Assassin’s Creed 5 (or potentially another spin-off title), and Guillemot says the reveal of the remaining two titles is coming soon. If Ubisoft can retain the momentum of Black Flag, Assassin’s Creed should continue to be a staple console franchise in the new generation.
