We try to tell you as often as possible when good paid apps are made available for free, and today we’ve hit the mother lode. For a limited time, Amazon is offering more than $100 worth of paid Android apps for free in its popular Amazon Appstore portal.

Titles currently available range from fun games and photo editors to great tools and productivity apps. Some highlights include Pho.to Lab Pro, Informant 3, Plex, Notepad+, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, AccuWeather Platinum and Jump Desktop.

Of course, before you can access the apps, you’ll need to install the Amazon Appstore on your phone or tablet.

Since Amazon’s portal is a direct Google Play rival, Google won’t allow the download in its own app store. As a result, you’ll need to download it from http://www.amazon.com/gp/mas/get-appstore/android after going to Settings > Security on your Android device and checking the box next to “Unknown sources.” This will allow you to install apps that were not downloaded through Google’s Android app store.

Amazon’s sale is good for 48 hours beginning Friday. Check out the full list of apps by following the link below in our source section.
