Let’s start with some critics. Here’s Pete Sciretta of SlashFilm:
Awesome. The Force has indeed awakened. I can't wait for what comes next. #StarWarsForceAwakens

Mashable’s Chris Taylor also had a very positive reaction:
I got chills. I got goosebumps. I laughed. I teared up. #TheForceAwakens

Germain Lussier of iO9.com:
Star Wars: The Force Awakens spoke to my every emotion. Most of them good, a few not, but overall it was an amazing, overwhelming experience

Mashable’s Josh Dickey liked the movie a lot but is more tempered in his enthusiasm than others:

Still, any movie that’s better than Return of the Jedi is a very good movie!
Los Angeles Times film critic Zeitchik offers what seems like praise, although that all depends on how you define the term “old fashioned.” In this context, it sounds like a good thing:
From comedy to costumes, fights to fx to overall feel, J.J. Abrams has created a thoroughly old-fashioned movie #StarWarsForceAwakens

Now for the celebrity tweets. Keep in mind that professional actors are much more likely to praise a film than critics are since they don’t want to sabotage their chances of landing a role in a future J.J. Abrams film by trashing his work in the most important film of his career. All the same, it’s nice to see so many being so positive in their early takes.
Here’s Rob Lowe, currently starring in the Fox comedy The Grinder:
There's a new hero in town, in a movie that DELIVERS. Cried like a baby, whooped like a teen! #StarWarsForceAwakens pic.twitter.com/apo0EHr7EA
— Rob Lowe (@RobLowe) December 15, 2015
And here’s Grinder costar Fred Savage:

Rainn Wilson was pretty happy as well:
1st Star Wars review: it was epic, awesome & perfect. The cast was stellar. JJ killed it!
— RainnWilson (@rainnwilson) December 15, 2015
And Patton Oswalt offers a reaction that will soothe the nerves of long-time Star Wars fans:
JJ did it. #StarWarsForceAwakens
