Well, isn’t this a mysterious way to announce an Xbox Games Showcase? As if the Xbox community wasn’t pumped enough already, Phil Spencer and team are going to make us guess what the Direct event following the Showcase is going to be for.
We’re barreling towards the summer now, so it’s about time we got an announcement on when Xbox will be hosting arguably its biggest gaming event of the year. In a blog post, the company revealed that it will be hosting its Xbox Games Showcase on June 9th at 1:00 PM EST this year.
In addition to the Xbox Games Showcase, the company also teased that it will also be hosting a Direct event right afterward. However, Xbox refuses to say what franchise the Direct event will be for, casting some mystery upon all of us for the next few months.
Like our double-feature last year with Starfield Direct, immediately following the Showcase we’ll be airing a special deep-dive into the next installment of a beloved franchise. We can’t say much, so for now we’ll call it the Xbox Games Showcase followed by [REDACTED] Direct.
If you’re planning on tuning in, here’s how to watch and what to expect from the event.
How to watch the Xbox Games Showcase
As the company has done with tons of prior events, Xbox will be streaming the Xbox Games Showcase and [REDACTED] Direct event on YouTube, Twitch, and even Facebook. It’s likely a prerecorded event, but that’s fine! Once the company adds the placeholder videos to the different platforms, I’ll be sure to swing back and add them here.
The company says that the event will be streamed in over 30 languages across the different platforms and will feature both American Sign Language and English Audio Descriptions. You’ll be able to tune in on the YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook pages below:
If you’re wondering what time 1:00 PM EST shakes out to be in your area, Xbox has provided a breakdown for you:

What to expect from June’s Xbox Games Showcase
As far as what we can expect from Xbox’s Games Showcase and [REDACTED] event in June, that’s a little tougher to make a call on. However, the company has given us some hints.
The big hint that Xbox included in the blog post was that June’s event will be the first one where the company will actually talk about games from Activision Blizzard after its gigantic $69 billion acquisition of the studio that was completed late last year. The company also says that the event will feature games from Bethesda, Xbox Game Studios, and other partners.
This will also be our first Showcase featuring games from our portfolio of studios across Activision, Blizzard, Bethesda and Xbox Game Studios, in addition to titles from our third-party partners.
The other big question about the event is what is the [REDACTED] Direct event that the company is talking about? All Xbox is saying right now is that it will contain a “special deep-dive into the next installment of a beloved franchise.”
While Xbox is doing its best to hide what franchise that may be, multiple sources across different outlets are confirming that, yes, it’s a Call of Duty event. I don’t think that will be a surprise to anyone, especially since Call of Duty is by far the most well-known franchise that Xbox picked up as part of the Activision Blizzard acquisition.
Outside of Call of Duty, the event is likely to feature updates on a ton of games including Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Avowed, Gears of War, Starfield, Fable, Everwild, and more. It seems to be gearing up to be a huge event. Xbox says, that after the event, it will be hosting a “week’s worth of coverage here on Xbox Wire and The Official Xbox Podcast, featuring updates and deep dives on a ton of games.”
We’ll certainly be tuning in, so we’ll all jump in together on June 9th!
