Apple might have started the smartphone display resolution war when it debuted the iPhone 4 back in 2010, but the company really hasn’t fired any new shots since then. Of course, Apple did carry the battle over to tablets with the third-generation iPad and to laptops with the Retina MacBook, but the Retina display on Apple’s seventh-generation iPhone 5s features the same pixel density as it did on the fourth-generation iPhone 4. Meanwhile, Android smartphone makers have managed to continually pack more and more pixels into their panels, and Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S5 smartphone will apparently be the king of them all when it debuts next week.

Rumors have gone back and forth for months regarding whether or not Samsung’s next-generation flagship smartphone will feature a new display with even better resolution than the full HD 1080p Galaxy S4 screen. According to a new leak, the Galaxy S5 will indeed sport a brand new display with 2K resolution.

A screenshot posted Sunday by SamsungGalaxyS5Abonnement.com was supposedly captured on a Galaxy S5, and it shows several details about the phone’s specs. Most interestingly, the Galaxy S5 display is listed as measuring 5.25 inches diagonally, and it apparently packs 1,440 x 2,560 pixels and an insane pixel density of 560 ppi.

For comparison, the iPhone 5s’s Retina display features a pixel density of 326 ppi, though it remains to be seen how the significant difference on paper will translate in the real world.

Other purported Galaxy S5 specs include a 2.5GHz quad-core processor or an 8-core Exynos chipset depending on the model, a 20-megapixel primary camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM, a huge 3,000 mAh battery, an integrated infrared blaster, support for 4G LTE data speeds of up to 150Mbps, and Android 4.4 KitKat.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S5 on Monday during a press conference ahead of the annual Mobile World Congress trade show.
