App Store tops 1.5 billion downloads in first year

Following the Apple App Store’s 1-year anniversary this past Saturday, Apple has just released the official numbers encompassing the on-device portal’s performance through the first year of operation. To be quite frank, they speak for themselves:

  • Over 65,000 apps
  • Over 100,000 developers
  • Over 1,500,000,000 downloads

The App Store, now available in 77 countries, is only available on two different devices of course — the iPhone and the iPod touch. With combined sales of around 40 million units at this point, each device is responsible for an average of 37.5 downloads and each app has been downloaded an average of about 23,077 times. Long story short… Apple crushed it.
