Amazon’s Dash Buttons really are a stroke of genius. Each Dash Buttons takes a small piece of Amazon’s website and moves it out of the virtual world and into the physical world. Instead of having to browse the Amazon site on your computer or fire up the Amazon app on your smartphone to buy a product, you simply tap any Dash Button strategically placed in your house, and the specified product will be ordered. So, for example, place the Tide button next to your washing machine and a tap will instantly order more detergent.
Available to any and all Prime members, Amazon’s Dash Buttons cost $4.99 each but they’re actually free. How does that work? The first time you use a new Dash Button, you’ll get a $4.99 credit on your Amazon account to cover the cost of the button. Each button gets paired with a specific product, and as of Tuesday night there were 224 different brands available. As of Wednesday morning, however, that number just jumped up considerably because Amazon just announced the addition of 60 new Dash Buttons to its lineup.
