Gadget blogs have been saying for months how “boring” Apple’s new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are, but apparently someone forgot to tell consumers around the world because sales so far are apparently through the roof. We won’t know any exact numbers until Apple reports its September-quarter earnings next month, and continuing supply shortages will undoubtedly impact fiscal fourth-quarter sales figures. But a new report suggests that not even Apple was expecting its new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus to be as popular as they have been so far.
MUST SEE: One of the iPhone 8’s hottest new features was just unveiled by another company
Apple’s new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus might be brand new phones, but they feature designs that look strikingly similar to their predecessors. In fact, their physical appearance is so similar to last year’s iPhones that many gadget bloggers decided to label them boring and uninspired long before Apple even unveiled them and discussed the changes they would feature.
Now that the new iPhone models are here, consumers haven’t been finding them boring at all.
Nearly two weeks following the new iPhones’ release, it’s still extremely difficult to find most iPhone 7 Plus models in stores. And if you’re hoping to get your hands on a Jet Black iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, you’re still anywhere from 3 weeks to 2 months away from receiving your new phone, depending on which model you choose.
The new iPhones are already well on their way to becoming the best-selling smartphones in the world. According to a new report, not even Apple was prepared for how popular the phones are. Digitimes on Wednesday relayed news from its unnamed sources, who stated that Apple has had to revise its component orders for the fourth quarter of the year. And we’re not talking about a tiny correction here. According to the report, iPhone touch panel orders for the coming quarter have been increased by between 20% and 30% — that means Apple may have initially underestimated demand by as much as one-third.
