The more we browse around Google’s lists of 2015’s top searches, the more depressed we get. Paris under attack… Cecil the Lion… Volkswagen emissions scandal… Donald Trump…

It’s not all bad news, though. Some of the year’s most popular searches covered far less woeful topics, and the world’s top Internet company just released its lists covering the top searches of the year. Some of them will surprise you and some of them are well expected, but browsing around these lists will definitely help you relive a rollercoaster of a year.

How many of 2015’s top queries did you search?

DON’T MISS: A simple idea that will make Comcast’s data cap much more consumer-friendly

Google’s year in search for 2015 is broken into two equally interesting parts. The first explores the year’s biggest moments by lumping together all queries surrounding a particular event. For example, 897 million searches were made for topics relating to the terrorist attacks in Paris, while there have been 338 million searches so far relating to the 2016 presidential election.

Next, Google posted a series of lists that offer the top 10 searches in a wide range of categories. Unlike the first section, this page will show you specific queries that fall under categories like people, movies, diet questions, dog questions and more. Consumer tech queries are notably absent from the page, but Google supplied a list of the top 10 tech searches to VentureBeat:

  1. Apple’s iPhone 6s
  2. Samsung Galaxy S6
  3. Apple Watch
  4. Apple’s iPad Pro
  5. LG G4
  6. Samsung Galaxy Note 5
  7. Samsung Galaxy J5
  8. HTC One M9
  9. Google’s Nexus 6P
  10. Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4

So, what were the year’s most popular searches? Here’s a top 10 list across all categories:

  1. Lamar Odom
  2. Jurassic World
  3. American Sniper
  4. Caitlyn Jenner
  5. Ronda Rousey
  6. Paris
  7. Agar.io

Some go without saying, but there are probably at least one or two things on that list that surprised you. As for the year’s most popular searches by category, you can check them all out by following the links below in our source section.
