As one of the more iconic movies of the 1980s, Back to the Future undoubtedly holds a special place in the hearts of those who can remember watching it many decades ago. Impressively, and in contrast to a number of other iconic films from previous decades, Back to the Future still holds up today as a bonafide masterpiece of filmmaking.

Originally released in 1985, it’s only fitting that the film’s 30 year anniversary will be accompanied by a highly-anticipated documentary. Titled Back in Time, the upcoming feature promises to give fans an incredible look into the stories, people, and circumstances that helped churn out such an incredible series of beloved and long-lasting films.

Esquire adds:

Back in Time will chronicle how the Back to the Future trilogy came to be and how it has affected pop culture since its smash-hit debut. Featuring new interviews with Michael J. Fox, Robert Zemeckis, Steven Spielberg, Bob Gale, and Dan Harmon, among many others, Jason Aron’s doc looks poised to give fans—past, present, and future (zing!)—new perspective on the franchise’s lasting allure.

The trailer for the upcoming documentary can be viewed below.

If this sounds even the least bit intriguing, the good news is that you won’t have to wait too long to see it as Back in Time will make its theatrical debut on October 21.

As for any rumors you may have seen floating around involving a series reboot, well don’t count on it happening anytime soon.

“That can’t happen until both Bob and I are dead,” director Robert Zemeckis told The Telegraph this past June. “And then I’m sure they’ll do it, unless there’s a way our estates can stop it. I mean, to me, that’s outrageous. Especially since it’s a good movie. It’s like saying, ‘Let’s remake Citizen Kane. Who are we going to get to play Kane?’ What folly, what insanity is that? Why would anyone do that?”

Indeed.

As a point of interest, check out the original Back to the Future trailer from 20 years ago. It’s a bit cheezy, but so it went back in 1985.
