With several fantastic new Android smartphones already on the market, LG is going to be hard-pressed to make an impact when its flagship G4 is finally unveiled at the end of April. After all, why wait a few extra weeks to buy LG’s smartphone when you can buy an HTC One M9 today and a Galaxy S6 next week?
Here’s why: LG’s Quad HD display.
On Friday, LG Display published a press release on its website unveiling the new 5.5-inch Quad HD LCD display that will be featured on the LG G4 when it launches in the coming weeks.
According to the release, this new display “represents a quantum jump in terms of key features, including color gamut, brightness, contrast ratio, touch function, power consumption and thinness.” Yes, it’s the same size as last year’s display, but it has been improved in nearly every way imaginable.
LG claims that the display offers a 120% color gamut, higher than the standard 100% gamut of most QHD displays. The display also has a 50% higher contrast ratio and it’s 30% brighter than most other displays, but without affecting the power consumption.
“The company has maximized the essential display functions for mobile devices from touch to color gamut by using the latest technology and accumulated expertise.” said Mr. Byeong-Koo Kim, Vice President of the IT/Mobile Development Group at LG Display. “LG Display will continue to develop products that can offer the best user experience not only for smartphones, but also for tablets and notebook PCs.”
