One curious Redditor is looking to find the answer to an important question regarding the entire mobile ecosystem and Apple’s influence on smartphone design, especially when it comes to devices from the competition.
“The iPhone 6 Plus is the very first phone with a large screen, and many, many Android and Windows phones are releasing new phones with large screens,” he wrote from his iPhone Shuffle. “Had the iPhone 6 Plus never been unveiled, would these copycat phones ever exist? Google and Samsung seem to love to copy every innovation Apple makes, and I think many copycats have been copying the iPhone 6 Plus’s large Retina display. Has Apple started a revolution?”
Yes, this is just a clever April Fools’ Day joke, but the question might offer some promising responses, as some Redditors are already rising up to the challenge.
“Fun fact: The first Windows Phone phablet came out 1520 days after the 6 Plus launch, so it must be a copycat!,” windowsphoneguy said.
“Yes! I’ve been telling everyone! Everyone was making fun of the 6 Plus. Calling it ‘unweildy,’ ‘poorly engineered’ and that you’ll look like you’re holding a toast next to your face but look at it now,” Reddit user Aaron_Watson said. “Samsung is rushing to their labs to create a half-assed big phone & Google was caught totally off guard, hurrying up to optimize Android for big screens!”
