Gogoro Smartscooter is the name of a bold electric scooter project that was first detailed at CES 2015 in early January. In short, the proposed scooter aims to offer users a convenient means of transportation that’s not only supposed to work with batteries rather than gas, but it’s also meant to offer users a hassle-free experience when it comes to powering those batteries.

Instead of having to constantly remember to charge the scooter’s battery at home, the user simply has to only drop the depleted battery to a special Gogoro Energy Network GoStation and pick up a new one. And scooter fans in Taiwan will be the first ones to try the Gogoro scooter system.

The Gogoro Smartscooter will be available first in Taipei City and New Taipei City this summer, though 100 lucky riders will be able to try it out even before than. On Tuesday, the company will open its Experience Center store to the public, where interested customers will be able to find more details about the project.

Pricing details for the Gogoro Smartscooter aren’t available at this time, and it’s not clear how much scooter owners will have to pay each month in order to be able to swap used batteries with new ones – charging the scooter at home won’t even be an option for this particular business model.

Gogoro has not mentioned other launch markets for its electric scooter project, but more details about the Taipei launch are available at the source links below.
