It turns out that the LTE speed boost you get with the iPhone 6 really is as awesome as advertised. iClarified conducted a speed test on both the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 5s and found that the newer phone delivered download speeds that were more than three times faster than the older phone while also delivering upload speeds that were around 10Mbps faster.

All told, the iPhone 6 was capable of getting downloads at just under 100Mbps while the 5s’s download speeds maxed out at around 34Mbps. When it came to upload speeds, the iPhone 6 maxed out at around 26Mbps while the iPhone 5s maxed out at 16Mbps.

iClarified says it decided to conduct the speed tests to check out Apple’s claims that the iPhone 6 would deliver vastly faster speeds than any previous iPhone. It turns out that Apple wasn’t bluffing, although a teardown of the device could have told us that since it revealed the iPhone 6 features a Qualcomm MDM9625M LTE Category 4 modem that can offer peak download speeds of up to 150Mbps and peak upload speeds of up to 50Mbps. Even so, it’s nice to get confirmation that this works out great in the real world and isn’t just something that looks good on a spec sheet.
