Netflix is not done churning out original shows, as the streaming company just ordered a new sci-fi TV series based on Richard Morgan’s Altered Carbon book.

The series will have the same name, and it’ll tell the story of a world in the future where consciousness is easily transferred from one body to the next. It might not be the most original plot in the world, but the premise is definitely interesting.

Specifically, the action takes place in the 25th century, which is when the mind of a former elite interstellar warrior is downloaded into a future that he tried to stop. Takeshi Kovacs, known as Envoy, is the warrior in question, who’s mind was imprisoned for 500 years.

The character is featured in other Morgan books as well, which means there should be plenty of action for the new series, assuming it becomes a must-see Netflix hit

Altered Carbon will kick off with a 10-episode season, Variety has learned, with Laeta Kalogridis calling the shots. Kalogridis, who co-wrote screenplays for Shutter Island and Terminator Genisys, will be in charge of writing and executive producing the new TV show. There’s no premiere date for Altered Carbon, and we have no idea who’s going to star in it just yet.

Skydance Television, the studio that produces the Netflix comedy Grace and Frankie, will make Altered Carbon as well.

Netflix announced a few days ago that it’s ready to invest some $6 billion in content this year, including original programming, and it looks like the company means business. Altered Carbon is just one of the newly revealed Netflix shows – see what’s hitting the streaming service this year at this link, complete with trailers.
