Dropbox on Tuesday issued a nice update to its popular iOS app which takes advantage of the extensions feature Apple first introduced with iOS 8. With the updated app, users can now save files directly to their Dropbox account via an iOS 8 share sheet.

As a quick and basic example, users now have the ability to, say, tap on a photo from within their photo library, select “Save to Dropbox”, and instantly have it beamed up to their account. Of course, such functionality will similarly apply to all sorts of file types, including audio files, PDF documents and more.
Version 3.7 of Dropbox, available now on the App Store, adds an action extension that lets you copy any file that can be shared with iOS’ native share menu directly to your Dropbox account. The extension is fairly basic: you can save to your root Dropbox folder and navigate sub-folders; when uploading, a modal dialog will show a progress bar, which will be automatically dismissed when the upload is done.
Simple enough, but undoubtedly a welcome enhancement for Dropbox users.
The release notes for Dropbox 3.7 reads as follows:
- New Action Extension for iOS 8: save files straight to Dropbox from your favorite apps
- Bug fixes and improvements related to moving and deleting files, printing and exporting, RTF previews, and password protected files
